- D-ROK - firstly it is great that you froze sperm!! it does depend on your treatment and more importantly - your body's individual response to treatment, but chemo can mess with the cells called sertoli cells and leydig which help sperm production and testosterone production. But really the only way you will find out is by having them tested later on when you are ready for that. BUT - the good news is that there have been lots of cases with sperm freezing resulting in pregnancy and even one case of sperm frozen over 15 years ago!
- I was treated for cancer wayyyyyy back in 1998 with surgery, chemo and radio, and like D-ROK put some swimmers on ice. Had swimmers version 2.0 checked out a few years ago, which were described as "plentiful but not very active".
Good news is that my wife and I 12 years on are expecting our first child (by sheer luck and accident) and all is well. I was worried as, especially as our pregancy was unplanned, but everything has been good news and we're excited as. Hey guys
I was just reading the comments about fertitly and i thought i'd just let people no that you should NEVER give up hope.
I was diagnosed with Leukeamia when i was 10 and relapsed at 15 at went on to have very intense chemo and radio thearpy and a bone marrow transplant. Before starting treatment again the doctors almost guaranteed me that after i have the transplant i would have universal infertility and that my ovaries would be 'fried' so we looked into having my eggs removed or what i had left from the 1st time i was sick and was told that if i had my eggs removed and when the time came for the eggs to be reintroduced back into my body to start a family there was a chance that the eggs could have cancer cells in them or attatched to them and bring the cancer back into my body, so we didnt go through the procedure. My menstrual cycle stopped during treatment and returned wen i was 17 long after the amount of time the doctors told me it would take to return. At 18 i got into a serious relationship which he is now my husband. I went for hormone testing to see if there was a slight chance of my partner and i of having children and the news was i had the hormones of an old lady and i should expect to go into menopause within the next few yrs. Not long after the hormone tests i fell pregnant but found out i miss carried 1 week later. My doctor has told me that chemo had suppressed my ovaries for a number of year and for some reson that had switched them selves back on but still there was no guarantee that i would ever fall pregnant, but we tried and we tried and we tried anyway and nothing untill pretty much 1yr aften the miscarriage we found out i was pregnant again and 4yrs on we have a beautiful little girl. To hear that cancer was going to take away my motherhood just about killed me and now to have a little girl that just wants me to tell every cancer and passed cancer patients that it does happen and you can never ever give up hope on becoming a parent. I hope this comment offers hope to all you guys out there wondering about your fertilty.
