Avatar - the future of cinema?

If you haven't seen Avatar yet - where have you been?? It's essential that you get to the cinema to see it in 3D, or an Imax if possible. This movie is the future of cinema because it's bringing people back to the movie theatre. You want to see a movie like this at the actual cinema. It just wouldn't be the same if you downloaded it and watched it at home on a small screen.

Another cool thing about the movie is that it's in 3D. But is the whole 3D thing just a novelty fad that will die out, or are all movies eventually heading this way? And does it actually make movies better?

Overhyped. The story is Pocahontas but with better visual effects (that's why it only won oscars for art/visual stuff rather than being a good movie). Brilliant effects, but not a brilliant movie.

Btw check out this clip of the Avatar / Pocahontas trailer:

Ok cool, I haven't seen Avatar. But now, when everyone says "you have to see Avatar, it's amazing" I can just say "oh I've already seen it" because I've seen Pocahontas.

    Handy to know!

And since I can't stand James Cameron ("King of the World? Puleasssseeee) I don't have to go see it.

I went to 'wonderland' a couple of days ago and was pretty amazed.  Burton has created a magical world with characters you actually care about.  My companion fell asleep half way through which is never a good sign of 'mass appeal'.  It is very well acted as well.  I give it 4 stars out of 5.

Alice was ok...I really thought it was going to be REALLY good. I would only give it 3/5.  AVATAR was amazing...I totally see the Pocahontas similarity now to...wow! AVATAR was still amazing! 6/5. My only criticism was the use of Papyrus font-In our graphic design world this font is laughed upon and out casted. I still don’t understand how an estimated $500 million movie can use a font like Papyrus for the subtitles and title! They should have developed a AVATAR specific typeface...that’s what the Graphic Designers get paid for!

I have seen both Avatar and Alice in Wonderland...I have to say I prefer Alice. Interesting note on the whole Pocahontas similarities. So true! They say that all stories in the world are drawn from only 6 basic folk tales...

OMG Jen I didn't realise the font thing! You'd think if they are going to construct a whole language for the characters the least they could do is get their own font! Classic...
