Dealing with Stuff
Planning your funeral
For some of you it might be very important to feel like you have some control over what happens – especially when so many other things seem out of control.
Also you might want to make sure that they play something by MUSE and not Celine Dion!!
Things that you may want to think about:
- Do you want to be cremated or buried
- Who do you want to speak at your funeral
- Are there any special prayers, psalms or readings that you want read
- What music do you want played
- Where do you want your ashes kept or scattered
- What do you want on your tombstone
Finding ways to communicate what you want is important. If you and your family have been open in talking about you dying then this may make talking about your funeral a little easier.
If not, then you may have to find someone who you can talk to – a friend, a nurse, social worker or a religious leader.
If talking is too hard then you can write instructions for your family so that they can act on your wishes after you die. Just don’t forget to let someone know where they can find what you have written!
