Tips for visiting your sibling in hospital
Tips for visiting your brother or sister in hospital
- Take your homework or uni work to hospital with you. You can then focus on something else rather than the medical stuff.
- Take in some DVDs to watch. If the hospital doesn’t have a DVD player, you could rent or buy a small handheld one.
- Take in some board or card games.
- Catch up on some sleep in the visitors chair. Just being in the room with your brother or sister might be enough!
- Take some music to listen to.
- Get their favourite food delivered or get take-away.
- Organise for their friends to visit with you - they can check out our friend's hospital tips before they come.
- Let them guide you and allow them to feel how they want to feel. If they are sad and angry, let them be that way. If they want to have some fun and a bit of a laugh, join in. They will go through their ups and downs and that’s okay.
- Bring along something nice, just a little something to show you’ve been thinking of them, like:
- their favourite food
- some of their favourite music or movies
- a book or magazine they might like
- a card filled with messages from all of their friends
